Why Unbill exists
The call came Friday. The appointment was Tuesday.
In between were four days of questions, search results and other people’s stories. Unbill was built for everything that happens between the first hard news and a clear next step.
Friday
A frightening fact, with almost no context
The call came in the car, on the drive home from a family trip. The diagnosis was cancer, and that was nearly all the information there was. No stage, no expected treatment, no sense of what would happen next. The next qualified conversation was days away, on Tuesday.
The weekend
More information, more uncertainty
The days in between filled themselves with searching. Facebook groups. Reddit threads. Stories that covered nearly every possible experience and outcome, with no way to know which were accurate, representative, or applicable. Which questions mattered? What could usefully be done before Tuesday? What would this mean for work, for insurance, for the bills that were certain to follow? Every answer was anonymous, and every answer was different. More information made the uncertainty worse.
Tuesday
Qualified guidance finally began
The care team took over, and real answers began. What lingered was the shape of those four days: a frightening diagnosis with almost no context, two parents trying to protect their children while managing their own fear, and an unfamiliar system that offered no place to begin.
What was missing
A trustworthy place to begin.
Not a diagnosis. That belonged to the doctors. What the weekend needed was help separating confirmed facts from unknowns, knowing which questions only a doctor could answer, and preparing what could be prepared: the documents, the insurance questions, the short clear list for Tuesday morning. One place for the administrative and financial journey that was about to begin.
The boundary matters
Unbill does not replace a care team.
Unbill does not diagnose, stage an illness, predict outcomes, or select treatment. That work belongs to qualified clinicians. Unbill exists for everything around it: turning fragmented bills, explanations, and letters into one understandable financial story, showing what the documents support, saying plainly what is still missing, and preparing next steps that you approve, so no family has to rebuild the story alone.
You should not have to figure this out alone.
Unbill is in private beta, built carefully with your authorization and truthful boundaries at every step.
